School is out, the weather is warm, and summer has officially started. As you prepare for your next vacation, here are a few reminders from your Credit Union on how to keep access to your Credit Union account seamless and convenient.

Let Us Know When You Hit the Road

Summer is here and adventure is on the horizon. Don’t let your travels be interrupted along the way. Our top priority is making sure access to your Credit Union account remains safe and convenient, so be sure to inform us when you plan to be out of town or out of the country. Though travel notices aren’t required, we highly recommend them. We continuously monitor your accounts for unusual or suspicious activities, and transactions made outside of your typical home area may cause your credit or debit card to be declined.

Don’t let a blocked card transaction put a damper on your summer fun. You have 2 options to update your account with your travel plans within Digital Banking

Within the Cards section of Digital Banking, for your Debit or Credit Card, follow these steps. Note: You’ll need to follow these steps for each card you’d like to apply the travel notice to:

  • Log into Online Banking or our Mobile Banking App.
  • Choose the Cards icon at bottom of Mobile Banking App or click ‘Cards’ above your Accounts in Online Banking.
  • Select ‘Manage Travel Plans’
  • Choose the plus sign beside ‘Add Travel Plan’
  • For your security, you will be sent a one-time security token for authentication. You will enter it on screen and click ‘Next’ to proceed.
  • Add your destination(s) and travel dates.
  • Click ‘Submit’ and you will see your destination(s) and date(s) displayed.

If you’d prefer to send us a Secure Message within Digital Banking, let us know at least a few days ahead of your travel. To send a Secure Message:

  • Log into Online Banking or our Mobile Banking App.
  • Click your name at the top right and then select ‘Messages’.
  • Select ‘Compose New’ near top left.
  • Select ‘General Inquiry’ and choose your Checking Account or Visa® Rewards Credit Card
  • In the Subject field place “Travel Notice”
  • In the notes field, include your travel dates and destinations. Simple as that!

As a third option, you can call our Contact Center ahead of travel at 205-226-6800. If calling our Contact Center after hours, choose the Cards menu option to add travel plans to your account.

Convenient Card Access and Controls in Digital Banking

The ability to safeguard your finances gives you peace of mind. Our Digital Banking features enhanced debit and credit card management tools, allowing you to set transaction limits, view spending insights, add travel plans, and more – all from our Online Banking or Mobile Banking App.

Using our card management features, you can:

  • See your real-time transaction history along with your spending insights for a clear picture of when and where your purchases were made
  • Set card controls by location, merchant type, and spending limits
  • See a list of merchants who have your card on file
  • Temporarily disable or enable your card as needed 
  • Add travel plans so you can use your card worry-free (see steps above)
  • Receive transaction alerts, fight fraud, quickly reach support, and more

Enjoy Contactless Payment with Your Credit Union!

Your Southern Energy Visa® Rewards Credit Card is compatible with Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, and Google Pay. All three platforms use contactless payment without the need to present your credit card. By not having your card account number shared with merchants, you can worry less!

How to Set Up Apple Pay

Credit cardholders with an eligible Samsung device with the Samsung Wallet app can make transactions with their device using Samsung Pay. Samsung Pay is accepted by most merchants.

Last But Not Least – Don’t Forget About Your Account Access with the CO-OP Shared Network

As a Credit Union member, you’re provided access to your accounts through the CO-OP Shared Network. That means you have access to more than 30,000 surcharge-free ATMs and 5,600 Shared Branches throughout the country where you can make deposits, withdrawals, and even transfer funds. To make transactions faster and more secure, if you’re visiting a CO-OP branch to make a withdrawal and have an out-of-state ID, you’ll be required to verify your identity digitally by scanning a QR code in branch.
